The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and the Association for Metropolitan Mobility – Club Metropolitan (AMM) are organising the workshop on ‘Financing and modernizing light rail in Central and Eastern Europe 2014-2020’ in Oradea (Oradea City Hall) on 26 March 2014.

This international workshop will gather light rail, mobility and banking experts to discuss solutions for modernization and financing of trams and light rail in the Central and Eastern Europe region, leading experts and professionals from operators, authorities, industry and international organizations and many others. This workshop will be a unique chance to understand the light rail dynamics in the region, but also no meet and network with top actors from the public transport sector in this part of Europe.

The European Union‘s new programming period has just started, with over €181bn transferred directly to the Central and Eastern Europe (CEEC) region. Between 5-8% of this amount will be invested in integrated public transport development projects. It is, therefore, a big challenge for operators, decision-makers and industry in the region to invest, channel and use available resources in a way that will make urban and regional mobility more sustainable, technologically efficient and financially effective.
